NEWTs Magical Readathon TBR

I am SO excited for the NEWTs readathon! A couple of months ago, I participated in the OWLs readathon, and this one is the follow up to that. These readathons are so incredible (my all time favourite), and they were created by G from Book Roast, so I suggest that you go and check out everything about the readathon on her booktube channel, because it will be explain so much better than I can.

So essentially, once you have completed your OWLs, you can continue with further ‘examinations’. BUT you can only continue in the exams that you passed in the OWLs readathon in April, and it’s harder now, because there are three challenges for each subject (acceptable, exceeds expectations, outstanding), and you should complete these in order. If you are aiming for particular career, there are specific requirements. I’m aiming for a Wandmaker, which actually only requires an O in Herbology, an E in Care of Magical Creatures, and an A in Charms. But because I am an over achiever, I’m trying to get an O in every exam (5) that I passed in the OWLs that was applicable to my ‘career’, if that makes sense. That means reading 15 books, which is doable.

I’m only going to include the challenges for Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Ancient Runes and Arithmancy, so I highly recommend checking out the announcement video to really know what is going on.

~ A Little Light Mischief by Cat Sebastian

Outstanding: Read a paperback
~ The Red Wyvern by Katherine Kerr

Ancient Runes
Acceptable: Read a book recommended by a friend
~ Ironside by Holly Black

Exceeds Expectations: Read a book written in the past tense
~ The Black Raven by Katherine Kerr

Outstanding: Read a book that’s been on your tbr for ages
~ The Fire Dragon by Katherine Kerr

Arithmancy

~ Valiant by Holly Black

Exceeds Expectations: Read a standalone
~ Blanca & Roja by Anna Marie McLemore

Outstanding: Read a book longer than 350 pages
~ Kingsbane by Clare Legrand

Basically, this tbr is me trying to read some books that have been on my shelves for a while and haven’t been read, or books that I bought recently that are getting dangerously close to being ignored for the next three years. This is obviously only tentative – I am utterly terrible at following tbrs, but these are the books I am taking with me over the summer to either read or look at mournfully.

I am beyond excited for August now! Let me know if you are participating in this readathon. What books are you hoping to get to?
