Ranking 2019 Releases

I think my reading generally is a good balance of new and older releases, but I also try to keep on top of new releases that I am interested in. Obviously, that is completely and utterly impossible and I have not read every book that has been published this year, and nor have I even read all the books published this year that I was interested in. But I thought it would be fun to rank all of the 2019 releases I’ve read so far this year, and see what I think of the sample that I have read. I’m thinking that I might do another of these towards the end of the year, to see how many more I’ve read, and whether these rankings drastically change, or stay in a similar place. (I also think that it would be interesting to compare to 2018 books as well, but that’s a whole other post).

As of now, the end of August, I have read 32 2019 books, and I think it’s amusing that as the year goes on, I fall more and more behind. A good portion of these books were published in January, and lot less in the later months. There just isn’t enough time for all the books you want to read, which makes me more compelled to only pick up books that really interest me. Most of the books I buy, however, are new releases, because I tend to be more excited about them.

Here I’m going to rank the books, from 31st to 1st place, that have come out this year, and also look at the ratings I gave them to really examine: are the shiny new books worth it?

Some of these books are practically the same in rating, so you have to look at this list in perspective. For example, The Orphanage of Gods may seem a lot further down the list than The Wicked King, but these books have the same rating and are only marginally different; the only reason they are so far apart is that there are so many other books with that rating as well that I love marginally more. Because most of these books are highly rated (yay, the 2019 books are good after all), the ones at the bottom aren’t even bad books, they just weren’t my favourites.

Average Rating: ★★★.9 (pretty good!)

★★★★★: 5
★★★★.5: 3
★★★★.25: 3
★★★★: 12
★★★.8: 2
★★★.5: 1
★★★: 3
★★.5: 1
★★: 2
(yes, I know, I need to stop with the overly specific ratings)

I think it’s safe to say that this year has been a good year of books, at least in my opinion. Of course you may totally disagree, depending on your taste in books. Anyway, I hope that this post was somewhat interesting. I know I always like looking at stats etc but maybe that’s just me. What do you think of the books published this year? What is your favourite?

I wish you all amazing reading!
