This is the first post I have written in a long time, due to exams and revision and lots of other things that have been keeping me busy and unable write blog posts. But now everything has been cancelled and I have far too much time on my hands. I think it’s important to take our current situation seriously and help each other. Staying at home if you can is important even if you don’t consider yourself a vulnerable person. But I think it’s also important to not lose all hope, and focus on the positive things in our lives. Like books! They bring me a lot of joy, and whilst I’m at home I’m planning to devote a lot of my attention towards them, because I love them. I have a lot of books on my tbr shelf, so I’m hoping to read a lot of them. But here are ten that I am personally very excited to get to!

KINGSBANE by Claire Legrand
This is the sequel to Furyborn which I read ever so long ago back in 2018, and really loved. Furyborn follows two main characters, the Sun Queen and the Blood Queen, one destined to save the world and the other to doom it, each of them 1000 years apart. The sequel seemingly continues where the first book ended, and I cannot believe I haven’t gotten to this sooner. I have had this on my shelf for quite a while (I think I have been quite intimidated by it) but with the third book due to release in October I need to hurry up and read it before I end up with both sequels on my shelves, unread.

HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD by Sarah J Maas
I used to be a huge fan of all books by Sarah J Maas. To this day I still think that her books are incredibly well written and the characters are so completely loveable. (Except Rowan. Just, no). However, as I have read more widely, I can see that there are problems that exist within them, and there are better and more diverse authors out there. But with this new series I think Sarah J Maas has the chance of a fresh start, and this will undoubtably be a very good book – the question is really whether it will be any different from her YA.

THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE by Samantha Shannon
I have heard incredible things about this book and I honestly believe it could become a new favourite. I put this book on a five star predictions list that I made ages and ages ago. I believe it had an f/f relationship, and dragons. What more could I want? What’s holding me back? Well, this book is huge. The font is so small and its adult fantasy, meaning I’m going to have to actually apply my brain. And I’m scared I’ll get bored, or I won’t be able to understand it. But now is a good time to read it – I have plenty of time and no distracting worries about exams. I hope that I love this one as much as I’m anticipating!

CHAIN OF GOLD by Cassandra Clare
Last year I renewed my love of Cassandra Clare books by reading the Dark Artifices series, and now I’m unstoppable. I love the Infernal Devices the most I think, mostly because it’s historical, and seeing how Cassandra’s writing has got better and better with her newer books, I think this one could be in place to become my new favourite Shadowhunter series. Being historical, and following the children of all our favourites, this could be incredible. We shall see, but I am very, very, very, very excited.

THE STARS ARE LEGION by Kameron Hurley
To be quite honest, I don’t know very much about this book, other than its adult sci-fi and I think there are LGBT+ characters as the leads. But honestly that’s enough to draw me in! I don’t read nearly enough sci-fi and I really want to explore the genre more. I guess now is a great time to read something outside of my comfort zone!

THE FAMILIARS by Stacey Halls
This is a historical fantasy to do with witches, making it a mix of two of my favourite genres. This was a gift from a close friend of mine and I cannot believe that I haven’t read this yet. The curse of being a mood reader is that you can never simply choose what you’re going to read next; you just pick something up. But nevertheless I would really love to read this as soon as possible.

WILD SAVAGE STARS by Kristina Perez
Here’s another sequel I need to read. This is the follow up to Sweet Black Waves which is a really beautiful Celtic inspired fantasy. If you’re looking for a romantic fantasy then I would definitely recommend book one, and I need to read book two really badly. I hope this will surpass even the first one and make it all the way to five stars!

ECLIPSE THE SKIES by Maura Milan
Yes, this is yet another sequel (are we seeing a pattern here?). Ignite the Stars is one of the most underrated books out there, and I loved it when I read it, so I can’t believe I haven’t read Eclipse the Skies yet. I think I can just conclude that I am so bad at continuing series. I would definitely recommend this series, however, as it is fun and fast paced, and full of great characters that any YA reader should love.

THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read in terms of the writing and the world that Morgenstern created. I adored it when I read it, so hopefully I should love this just as much. I don’t know very much about it other than its by one of my favourite authors, and its fantasy. I’m assuming this is going to be beautiful and lyrical and hopefully everything I need.

THE NEVER TILTING WORLD by Rin Chupeco
This book. THIS BOOK. This honestly sounds like everything I ever needed in a book. It has goddesses, a world where each half is stuck in either perpetual day or perpetual night, and a central f/f relationship. I’ve read Rin Chupeco’s The Bone Witch which I liked, and I thought her writing was beautiful, but I think this one is going to be even better. I actually hope this becomes a new all time favourite!
So there are the ten books I would really love to finally read. Let me know if you’ve read any of these and what you think of them. If you haven’t, are you hoping to read any of these soon as well?
Thanks for reading!
Need to add these to my TBR asap.
