About

I’m Eleanor (she/her), an A Level student currently studying English Literature, English Language and History. Fortunately or unfortunately, I have essentially constructed my identity around my love for books and reading and thus we have this blog. Reading for pleasure and unpicking those books I read, whether they be the height of literature or some lighthearted and easy to consume commercial fiction, eats up most of my time, though I can occasionally be found desperately trying to work out plots for various stories in my head, and sketching badly to make use of my art GCSE. The majority of the time I read fantasy, mostly for the escapism and the fascinating intricacy of world-building, but I am also interested in classic books, the intricate layers of the novel, how publishing works and our history when it comes to literature (topics on which I am far from being an amateur, let alone an expert, but I try). This blog is a place for me to share my reading, recommend books and explore some of the deep thoughts that (hopefully) enter my head every now and then.

short facts about me

  • I play the piano and have finally and painfully reached grade eight, though my favourite thing to do is to bash out Frozen 2 songs nearly all the time.
  • I am and have been obsessed with learning about the Tudors since I was in primary school, and my favourite person to study is Jane Seymour.
  • My favourite book is the lyrical work of art Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor which is about a librarian who finally gets the chance to visit the city he has been dreaming about since he was a child, but when he arrives it is not quite the idyllic place he imagined.
  • I have been using this blog since 2018, though posts are often infrequent due to the amount of work I have for school.
  • My favourite genres are fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, classics (though it is hardly an all encompassing genre) and a dash of contemporary.
  • I try to read as diversely as possible, though this is a work in progress and I am always striving to improve the amount of representation I can promote on this blog.
  • I believe in thinking critically about all the books I read, not only classics and what is deemed ‘literature’.
